The Pew Internet and American Life Project discovered Twitter, and has published it’s findings such as: Twitter users are young, mobile, and new media savvy. This is no surprise anymore! Nevertheless, it gives some insight in the user demographics of the average Twitterati and offers some basic comparison to the general Internet-using population – Get the findings at arstechnica.

In Germany, Haffa & Partner did some research on Twitter and how decision makers use the micro-blogging service. Not surprising that only 4% use it permanently, 28% are registered but don’t do very much with it and even 30% have not heard of Twitter yet.

The right branding expertise in a world of numerous social media possibilities becomes more and more important. Matt Rhodes wrote an interesting post on Branding in the age of social media. Especially, Mike Trap’s presentation visualizes a great deal why brand managers needs to be aware of the huge options – word-of-mouth and communities will become key branding drivers in the future. Talking about communities, eMarketer published an interesting article around what brands need to do around social networks. It focuses on the discrepancy between the huge reach of social networks and their problem to monetize their traffic with advertising.

“Social networking is not just about the display advertising, it’s about the other things that you can do with it,” he said. “For example, if my audience is active on Facebook, I want to be sure that I am making it very easy for someone to share whatever content they’re creating or consuming with all their friends.”
