Xing was lucky, as a first time mover xing extended it´s lead fast. the most useres are to lazy to cancel their premium accounts, also they don´t see other options to keep their business contacts. also the killer app "who was on my profile" serve peoples vanity and couriosity - in b2b where everyone needs to network for business and jobs - xing found a good way to get subsciption money. Facebook is also in a market leading position - but the most subscription models dont´t work, because the ist so fast innovation on the market, that a market leader easily falls behind because of new competition. If Xing will not extend capability and performance, the model will fall behind, because another innovator will provide a free and more valuable service. And this happens always. So I think there must be a way to make money with advertizing, especially when I see that in facebook every target group is available - the high potentials and everyone between 14-65.
